Using the Buildings

Shirley Baptist Church is privileged to have a range of excellent facilities which are predominantly for church based activities, but also available to other local community and charity organisations on an informal basis. It also has a really good coffee shop which is open to the public.

A leaflet explaining more about using the buildings can be found here.

Coffee Shop

Kairos Coffee is a community coffee shop run by a small management team along with a committed and dedicated group of volunteers.  The team serve a wide range of hot drinks, lunches, cakes and treats.  All our sandwiches are freshly made to order, and we pride ourself on our delicious ethically sourced coffee, as well as our range of Fairtrade teas.  Come to Kairos and expect a warm and caring welcome, our team are always happy to talk, or enjoy a peaceful moment to yourself.  Find out what is going on in the rest of the Church buildings, ask for prayer support, or  read our Thought for the Week, available on all tables. Kairos Coffee is a place for everyone where we hope you will feel loved, renewed and satisfied!

To keep up to date with what is going on at Kairos Coffee, follow us on Facebook or visit our website for more information.

Hard Halls

There are two halls which have wood effect flooring, one for general purposes and the other as a fully equipped sports hall.

The sports hall is one of the most exciting spaces in the new building and is very popular especially with the children and young people, with basketball rings, indoor football nets, table tennis, volleyball and many other facilities.

Soft Halls

There are two other rooms that have a carpeted floor and accommodate up to 40 people. These rooms are well used for Early Years activities, work with young people and events for those who are older.

In addition there are several smaller meeting rooms; one is currently used as a prayer room and is accessible whenever the building is open.

Free wifi is available in all these rooms.

The worship space is fully flexible with portable stage and seating, but it is most often set out in a way which faces the north side of the building so that entry from both the Stratford Road and from Trinity Place leads comfortably into either side of the worship space.

The blend of a contemporary design in the 1910 building is very attractive, and there is a natural sense of continuity from the worship space into the ‘hub’ which is a general meeting area, and on into the various rooms in the new part of the building.

Whilst this space is primarily used for worship, there have also been concerts and other events taking place in the worship area. The well-equipped sound and visual installation, effective lighting and flexible stage all help to widen the scope of how this space is used.
