Youth on Sundays

On Sunday mornings everyone meets together for the first 20 minutes before the children and young people split into their own groups. Seniors is for those aged 11-14 and Senior Seniors (original name!) for those aged 15-18. The groups spend time looking at the Bible and what it has to say about various topics and issues relevant to all teenagers, through discussions and activities.

On a Sunday evening there is a rolling programme over the month.

1st Sunday:

Melting Point meets on the first Sunday of the month and is for everyone in school years 7-9. We meet together to chill out and, through games, discussions and food, look at how the Bible relates to what's going on in our lives.

6th formers Once a month we get all the 6th formers together to relax and eat cakes. As we unwind, we look at topics that help us think about where and what God is calling us to. We think about all sorts of topics including guidance, leadership, gifts and choices.

2nd & 4th Sunday:

Youth Matters meets on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month and is for those in year 10 and above. We are a group who meet together to think about teenage life today and what the Bible has to say about it. We have discussions, games and generally a very laid-back approach to the evening. Aimed at year 10 to sixth form students we meet fortnightly on Sunday evenings @ 6:30pm in the Lounge at Shirley Baptist Church. Fancy joining us? Just turn up.

3rd Sunday:

Lighthouse services - At Shirley we believe that God has called all of us to serve one another, and to have the opportunity to test our gifts in ministry. Lighthouse services are organised by young people for young people. They provide an opportunity for you to get stuck into leading worship and planning the type of service that you would want to bring your mates along to. They usually happen every other month on the 3rd Sunday and cover a whole host of topics from grace to James Bond!

Backroom services The Backroom and Lighthouse services happen on alternate months. The Backroom services are organised by the youth leaders for the young people. All sorts of things happen at these services, from quizzes and videos to worship, question the speaker and a short talk (often while eating doughnuts!). It's called the Backroom service because it happens in the back halls at the church at 6:30pm.
